HumpMail: Home
About
HumpMail is a web email client written in Perl. This system requires an
Apache, mod_perl enabled server. HumpMail is designed to be balanced
horizontally across an infinite number of servers. It supports a plugin
infrastructure, and its default behaviour can be easily extended or overridden
with no changes to the core architecture. It is completely templated, where the
look and feel of the client can be changed with you guessed it, no code changes.
History
The first version for HumpMail was adapted from another similar project
developed originally by Malcolm Beattie. This product was WING v0.9.
Initially, the source was slightly modified to integrate into the intended
environment (25 million hits per month, balanced across 4 servers). The result
was HumpMail v0.1. Why HumpMail? Well, a camel, which is synonymous with
Perl, has a hump. Get it? Since then, the source has effectively been
completely rewritten. Many features were added, some deprecated and core
architectural design changes were required. Sounds like HumpMail v0.2 to me.
Roadmap
The task at hand now is to remove the environment specific isms of the current
version, document it appropriately and release it back to the open source
community. Some major modifications will be required and have yet to be
identified and/or designed, let alone implemented. I will attempt to update
this site appropriately, but I make no promises.
